Elizabeth Blackwell was born in England in 1821, and moved to New York City when she was ten years old. One day she decided that she wanted to become a doctor. That was nearly impossible for a woman in the middle of the nineteenth century. After writing many letters asking

When we see well, we do not think about our eyes very often. It is only when we cannot see perfectly that we realize how important our eyes are.
