In response to the problem, the local government has decided to fight

against air pollution. It has closed down several factories, which were considered to be the major cause of the polution. Many power plants have been modernized to give off less pollution and also moved further away from people's homes so as to decrease the damage. At the same time, the local government has decided to plant trees in and around the region because trees can absorb some of the polution.

Pre-Reading Acctivities.

I’m tired. And I feel guilty. Why? Im tired because I get so much exercise. I feel guilty because no matter how much I exercise, I never feel ltike its enough. I asked two exercise experts around town what would be an ideal exercise program for someone like me, an average, healthy, 45-yea-old adult First, they said that each exercise program should be geared to an individuals needs and their attitude towards exercise. Then here's what they suggested to me:

Exercise three times a week for at least 20 minutes at a time. Choose moderate-intensity exercises when possible. They are best for avoiding injury and burnout. Do exercises that work the large muscle grups like walking. Using \"lifestyle\" exercises in the program also makes the program easier to maintain. Lifestyle exercises incude bicycling, climbing stairs, swimming, & brisk walking. These exercises work.

Charlie Chaplain was born in 18 in London. His childhood was one of

extreme poverty and he did not have much schooling. But Charlie showed a gift for acting and longed to be an actor.

In 1910 Charlie went to the United States for the first time as part of a troupe and thus started his formal acting career. He was very successful in his acting and made about 80 films throughout his life. After World War I, Chaplin did not stop to rest on his earlier success. He gave up the Little Tramp character and tried to grow as an artist. Later Chaplin settled in Switzerland and stayed there for the rest of his life. He died in Switzerland on December 25, 1977 and the world lost one of the greatest creative artists of the 20th century.

Reading Skills Ex. I.

5. A trademark is a special name, sign, word, etc. marked on a product; it is a special sign or a distinctive characterstic. Now being cute is Mary's distinctive feature.

6. A core is the central part of certain fruit. A core of one's life is the most imporant part of one's life. The whole sentence means Engelbreit treasures old-fashioned art and values most.
