摘要:A method is proposed that identifies and quantifies stenoses in arteries basedon an analysis of Doppler frequency shifts from several heartbeats. It is non-invasive andindividual insensitive. Pulsatile flow through a blood vessel with wall roughness and/or
variable lumen area generates flow disturbances, which lead to variations in the shape ofthe Doppler shift frequency spectrum. One or several frequency bands that are affectedby these flow disturbances are selected from the overall Doppler shift frequencyspectrum. Next, one or several parameters, which characterize the selected frequencybands and vary with the degree of stenosis, are used in a linear function to calculate thepercentage of lumen area reduction. This method applies in the clinically important rangeof lumen area reduction of 10-70% with a standard error of 5% or less. For lumen areareductions greater than about 70%, the standard error is larger. A system for practicalimplementation is also proposed.
