My View on Major-hopping ( Model Test One)

People’s opinions are always different once they talk about major-hopping. Those who never change their major throughout their life maintain that they have been loving their major for years and dreaming of applying what they have learned to their future work, so what’s the point in changing to another major? They also firmly believe that anyone who wants to excel in his specialty has to work hard in the same field for years to acquire the required skill and knowledge.

Many people think otherwise . On the one hand, if they aren’t interested in or satisfied with their major at college , they decide to make a change when they pursue postgraduate studies. On the other hand, they are also likely to make the transition because they want to find a satisfactory job in the future.

My own opinion is that major-hopping , in this fast-developing information era, had become more than common and acceptable . If we want to keep pace with the times, we have to change for the faster, the higher, and the stronger. If we are sure that the new major fits us better and will add meaning to our life, why cannot we make a new beginning ?

On Fast Food ( Model Test Two )

The discussion about fast food has never stopped in the past few years. Let’s have a look at its advantages and disadvantages before drawing the final conclusion.

The biggest advantage of fast food is its convenience for customers. You go into a fast

1

food restaurant, order your food, and your food gets ready in a minute. Therefore, you can save a lot of time. What’s more, the environment of fast food restaurants is both clean and comfortable. Last but by no means the least, it has excellent service, and the quality of food is guaranteed.

However , the negative effects are also obvious . To begin with , in terms of nutrition, fast food is far from satisfactory. Fast food always contains more meat and butter and much less vegetables. It doesn’t compose a balanced diet and it is low in nutrition, thus eating fast food will result in some diseases in the long term. In the second place, although cooking at home is time-consuming and tiresome, it provides us more opportunities of cooperation and communication with family members and friends, and many kinds of traditional foods are made as art.

Up until now, we can see it clearly that fast food is not beneficial or harmful in itself. The key lies

in the user so long as we can make properly use of it, it can be most helpful to us in many respects,

Is a Credit Educational System Necessary? ( model three)

A credit educational system will be adopted in many universities, in which a student can

graduate as soon as he has earned the required credits. Many people welcome it with applause and enthusiasm, singing high praise of such brandnew system. College students can choose their subjects more freely and if they are smart, diligent and energetic enough,

2

they can graduate ahead of time. Other people, however, hold that it is untimely for us to do so because the overall college education has stayed at a relatively low level on this occasion.

As far as I am concerned, I am most happy to witness the implementation of such a credit educational system. On the one hand, the appearance of such a system will help me develop a more balanced schedule of choosing the courses and earn the required credits more quickly, so that I can find a job earlier and live an independent life . On the other hand, this new system will benefit the college education as a whole because the two-way choice will compel both teachers and students to make great efforts to meet the challenge.

How shall I sum up my feeling upon hearing the news of this new system? What I want to do most at present is to seize every chance to improve my overall ability so as to achieve outstanding performance in all the courses of my choice.

How to Eliminate Noise Pollution ( model four)

Nowadays, along with the fast pace of urban development, noise pollution has largely disturbed the normal life of city dwellers. It has become such a serious problem that it has aroused the concern from the whole society.

To put an end to such a serious problem, in my mind , calls for the efforts from all sides. First of all, major factories, as main noise creators, should be moved to industrial zones in suburbs. Department stores and big restaurants should not be established too close to residential quarters. Moreover, the municipal government should gradually increase the ratio of green land in the city, which can reduce all kinds of noises significantly. Last but not

3

least, all urban constructions should be stopped during the night so as not to disturb the neighboring dwellers.

How can anybody expect to lead a meaningful life until he is far from noise pollution? Only when all of us join in the efforts of eliminating noise pollution at all levels can we expect to have a better environment and a more beautiful future.

Loss of Social Trust ( model five )

With the development of national economy, a worrying social problem also arises---people can trust each other less and less, especially strangers.

This phenomenon will bring many unfavorable consequences . First and foremost, people’s life will lose a lot of fun since they become cautions all the time . What makes matters worse, the general expense of doing things rises abruptly as a result of the fact that people don’t want to help strangers . Finally, if this matter is not properly settled, it will pose a threat to national education.

It is high time that we called on the efforts from all sides to deal with this problem properly. For one thing, the government should make all efforts to create a harmonious social atmosphere. For another, teachers should seize every chance to stimulate affection and unselfishness in the hearts of the students. Finally, the mass media should also play a positive role in restoring mutual trust.

No matter whether this problem is a natural result of social development, it is important that we find a satisfactory solution to it in this social transformation era.

Credit Cards on College Campus ( model six)

Credit Cards have been part of college students’ life for many years. An increasing number of students would like to use credit cards than cash to pay for everything. After careful observation, we can find that it is more complicated than we have thought.

On the whole, I should say Credit Cards are necessary for college students. On the one hand, a credit card will offer students a safe way to pay their tuition fees, thus diminished the risk of taking a large sum of money with oneself. On the other hand, most credit cards provide a variety of services, such as a greater convenience of shopping and spending, streamlining collection procedures, etc.

To make Credit Cards do the job, however , we have to make sure of several points below. For one thing, we should lay down some rules of the credit cards on college campus to stop the misconduct of credit cards. For another, we should not rely too much on it, or else we will fail into great debt.

Credit Cards are an important part of college students’ life nowadays. Only by planning it wisely and conducting it reasonably can we make best use of it.

No Pains , No Gains ( model seven )

The well-know proverb “ No pains, no gains” has long been accepted by all of us. It tells us that we have to make efforts whenever we want to be successful in a certain field.

Let’s take English study as an example. If we want to improve our listening ability , we have to

5

keep on listening to different materials and make records from time to time. It is also true with spoken English . Listening to teachers attentively in class and reading books are far from enough---you should practice talking with partners every week.

Another good case in point is acrobatics , nobody is born a good acrobat , and one can only become a skilled one after countless failures. All of us feel excited when they win grand prizes in international competitions, but who knows how many hardships they have endured?

Judging from the examples given above, we may safely come to the conclusion that no pains, no gains. So why not try our best to learn our specialty well ? I am sure we will become experienced and skillful if we never give up.

Marriage and Divorce in Our Country ( model eight )

During the period from 1995 to 2009 , the number of marriage decreased from 9.15 million to 8.48 million, while the number of divorce rose from 0.8 million to 1.21 million.

We believe that three reasons can account for this phenomenon. First, young people of marriage age are becoming fewer and fewer because of the family planning policy adopted since the late 1970s . Second, the current society is one where fierce competition takes place everywhere, and many young people can’t and won’t get married before they embark on a promising career. Third, today’s people put more and more emphasis upon independence and freedom—they won’t get married before they find an ideal partner, and they will not hesitate to say goodbye when the spark of love dies down.

The great change, in my mind, signals the fundamental shift in people’s view on

6

family and marriage. This trend will probably continue as contemporary people pay more and more attention to high—quality marriage.

Don’t Hesitate to Complain (model nine )

Whenever we talk to others, we should not hesitate to complain especially in two situations. First, if a matter is not done properly, we should complain . Otherwise, the wrong practice will go on and on, until it becomes such a serious matter that nobody can overlook it any longer. To make matters worse, the most appropriate time for solving the problem may have passed. Second, if the matter is dishonest or even illegal, we should not hesitate a moment to complain or even report to the police, or

it will harm the interests of other people or even the whole society.

Many people don’t complain when they should, mainly for two reasons. In most cases , they put up with the wrongdoings because the matter is not too serious. It is also likely that they do not want to seem to make fuss about trivial matters . Nevertheless , when they choose not to complain, they do nothing to prevent wrongdoings from spreading.

If people don’t complain when they should, illegal actions even crimes will be on the rise. Every one of us should learn to form the habit of complaining whenever necessary.

My View on the Negative Effects of Plagiarism ( model ten)

7

Nowadays every one of us may come across people who copy others’ books, articles or other works for their own benefits now and then. This phenomenon is the most harmful to the academic circle and even the whole society.

In my opinion, their harmfulness can be summarized in the following three respects. In the first place, the rights of the original copyright holders are cruelly violated . In the second place, people will lose the impulse to create if there is plagiarism here and there. Last but not least, plagiarism will lead to the degradation of the whole academic circle, which includes not only the publications, but also people’s minds.

In my mind, the government and the citizens should join hands to put an end to plagiarism. On the one hand the government should punish the plagiarizers severely lest they harm the authors

again. On the other hand , common citizens should report such harmful phenomena as soon as possible. Only by the joint efforts of the government and the common people can we do away with plagiarism.
