网络热词

所谓“给力”就是给劲、带劲的意思。2010年11月10日，“给力”一词竟上了人民日报头版标题，瞬

间被普遍认为是网络语言“转正”。近来，“gelivable”这一由“给力”生造出来的英文词汇也开始走 红。

从日语中借来“宅”

日本媒体称，日语“宅”（hikikomori）一词也被作为英语单词收录在新版牛津词典中。在日本，越来越多的年轻人喜欢待在家里、足不出门，由此也催生出越来越多的“宅男”。但在英语中并没有与这种生活方式相对应的词汇，此次从日本“借”来一词，也实属无奈。 际上，牛津词典也曾收录过中文词汇，如牛津英语在线词典曾在2008年将我国上海的常用词“嗲”（dia）收入词典中，用作感叹或者表示同意

“菜鸟”和“大虾”

菜鸟，形容一个人上网很“菜”。用来比喻网络新手，英文中的对应词是newbie; 大虾，谐音自大侠，形容网络高手，英文中的对应词是knowbie，表示a knowledgeable and experienced Internet user.

值得一提的是这两组词在各自语言中都有比较一致的相关性。中文中的“菜鸟”和“大虾”戏谑成分较重，适合以文字体现，口语中广泛流传的可能性不大。而英文中的“newbie”和“knowbie”音节少，口语中发音简单易懂，拼写起来形象易记，含义上可以扩展到互联网外的其他场合，具备广泛的群众基础，已经出现在各大正式媒体中了。 “灌水”和“潜水”

论坛是网络交际的重要载体。在这里创造出来的网络用语自然最多。最常见的非“灌水”和“潜水”莫属。

中文里的“灌水”一词形象生动，一些人为了获得积分在论坛里反复留言;在回别人帖子的时候没有做出交际性的评论，只是简单的表示“同意”、“支持”，内容与主题无关，这种现象在英语中叫“bump”，它在论坛里是“顶”的意思。

e.g.To bump a thread on an internet forum is to post a reply in order to raise the thread's profile by returning it to the top of the list of active threads. This is also called \"necroposting\".

这种“灌水”往往被认为是一种垃圾留言(spam)，被很多论坛禁止。

“潜水”指在论坛、聊天室等只浏览不发言的行为。这样的人好似“潜水员”，永远不浮出水面。“潜水”在英语中的对应词是“lurk”。

e.g.Lurking is an activity performed on Internet Forums or Chat rooms that involves wandering the website, reading posts and never actually posting anything. 长期“潜水”会导致论坛人气不足，这样的member最终会被管理员取消成员资格，但在刚刚加入某一论坛时为了了解论坛的风格和讨论的主题短时间的“潜水”是被接受和鼓励的。

其余的一些论坛常用语如下：

帖子：“post”和“thread”都可以表示论坛里的“帖子”，往往可以互换使用。 投票：poll 引用：quote 帖子置顶：sticky 头像：avatar 签名：signature

斑竹(论坛里的版主)：moderator 控制面板：control panel 表情：smiley

Anybody with an Internet connection and a computer can now become a cewebrity. A cewebrity is somebody who is only, or perhaps mostly famous through their presence on the Internet, an Internet personality who crosses over to the mainstream. A web celebrity. A cewebrity.

现在，一台电脑加一条网线就可以让任何人成为cewebrity（网络名人）。所谓“网络名人”就是指那些只在网络上走红或者主要通过网络走红的人，也可以指从网络跨界到主流媒体的名人。所以，

cewebrity其实就是web（网络）上的celebrity（名人）。

英语热词之二：

贝利乌鸦嘴 Pele's jinx

jinx [dʒiŋks]

n. 厄运；[口]不祥的人或事物 vt. 使倒霉；给„带来厄运

贝利一开口，世界足坛抖三抖。从1990年世界杯开始，每届世界杯球王贝利都会做出预测，但被他看好的球队无一例外地提前被淘汰掉了，因此获封“乌鸦嘴”。今年最经典的预测要数巴西阿根廷会师决赛。看来球王真要向章鱼哥取取经了。

文中的jinx本意是“克星，不祥之人”，也就是我们说的“好事说不灵，坏事一说就灵”的“乌鸦嘴”。英语(论坛)中也用jinx-hex和hoodoo来形容“不祥之人”。

桑拿天 sauna weather

今天是24节气中的“小暑”，也是全国大部分地区盛夏的开始。连日以来，我国南北方都被卷入了滚滚的热浪当中，多数地区出现40度以上的高温，并迎来“桑拿天”。

据估计，本周三（北京）将迎来降雨，持续三天的热浪将得到缓解。但这场降雨将持续至周六，在本周后几天将京城彻底拖入“桑拿天”。

文中的sauna weather就是我们平时说的“桑拿天”，sauna（桑拿浴）的感觉想必大家都知道，stiflingly hot（非常闷热），因此sauna weather就是用来形容闷热难耐的天气，也称为sauna days。

高龄津贴（old age allowance）

《中国经济周刊》周二报道说，全国80岁以上的居民将享受统一的高龄津贴。此举旨在结束各地区高龄津贴不一致的状况。

在上面的报道中，old age allowance就是“高龄津贴”。高龄津贴是针对高龄老人发放的特别allowance（津贴），并不是pension（退休金/养老金）。一个人到了mandatory retirement age（法定退休年龄）就可以退休并享受nest egg（养老金）。我们把养老金领取者称为senior citizen，许多人的退休金都来自endowment insurance（养老保险金）。

Allowance一词是“津贴，补贴”的意思，例如：a housing allowance（房补），a meal allowance（伙食补贴，餐补）。小孩的零用钱也用allowance表示。Allowance还可以表示“折价，折扣”。例如：a trade-in allowance（以旧换新交易中的折价）；an allowance of $500 on an old car（一辆旧车有500美元的折价）。

黄油手 butterfingers

黄油手，是对扑球经常失误守门员的戏称，意为手上像抹了黄油，拿不稳球。

法国传奇门将巴特斯是最早被称为黄油手的人，而英格兰队因盛产黄油手门将被称为黄油队。

本次世界杯先有英格兰格林手抹黄油送美国平局大礼，再有阿尔及利亚沙乌希成功被格林附身0-1负斯洛文尼亚。

今天，我们就来说说这个“黄油手”的英文说法。

Butterfingers refer to a clumsy person, especially one who tends to drop things. During the World Cup, the term refers ironically to those clumsy goalkeepers prone to let shots slip through their hands as if they had applied butter to their fingers.

“黄油手”指笨手笨脚、手里拿东西很容易掉的人。世界杯期间，“黄油手”则指那些扑住了对方进球却又让球从手中溜进球门的守门员，就好像他们手上抹了黄油似的。

太空游客 space tourist

世界第七位太空游客、加拿大太阳马戏团的创始人、亿万富翁拉利伯特已随另外两位宇航员一起返回地球。他在国际空间站上曾干起杂技演员老本行，戴上小丑“红鼻子”道具与宇航员和家人同乐。

Wearing a red clown nose, the Canadian founder of Cirque du Soleil hosted an out-of-this-world performance event on Friday, saying he wanted to use his trip as aspace touristto highlight the scarcity of water on Earth.

在manned orbiting laboratory（载人轨道实验室）内的宇航员，时常身穿space suit（太空服）进行space walk（太空行走）。在航天器发射前，需要选择合适的launch window（发射窗口期），在发射升空后，有时还需进行orbital transfer（变轨），以进入预定轨道。

Beijing court has issued what's being treated as the first decision to award damages for emotional distress in a case involving human flesh search engines. A Beijing man surnamed Yan won 10,000 yuan in emotional damages from his former employer, along with 1,300 yuan for economic losses.

北京市日前判决首起被判赔偿精神抚慰金的“人肉搜索引擎”案件。北京的严先生从其原单位获得经济损失1300元、精神抚慰金1万元的赔偿。

上面的报道中出现了近几年网络上很流行的一个术语“人肉搜索引擎”的英文表达方式：human flesh search engine，因为这个说法是中国的网民自创的，所以有些地方直接用 renrou search engine 来表示。

人肉搜索引擎就是指在利用现代信息科技和传统搜索引擎的同时，更多地利用人工参与来提取搜索引擎提供的信息的一种机制。对于“人肉搜索”在网络中的作用，有人称之为 Internet lynching（网络私刑），也有人称之为 vigilante of the Internet（网络义警），至于孰是孰非，尚待进一步论证了。

随着《牛津英汉汉英词典》在线版将“囧”(Dumbfounded)，“山寨”(Knock-off)，“剩女”(Old spinster)，“愤青”(Angry youth)，“房奴”(Mortgage slave)，“自由行”(Free individual travel)等词收入词条，越来越多中文热词修成正果。

在1600年前，仅有typhoon(台风)，Japan(日本)，li(里)，litchi(荔枝) 等6个中国制造的词汇被收入牛津；17世纪增加了31个，18世纪又有44个词杀入英语家族，19世纪两次世界大战爆发，新词达到112个词，而上世纪截至1992年最后一个中文词编入《牛津英语辞典》为止，新词又增加了152个。不过在一季度更新一次的牛津在线辞典中，中文借词数量可以乘上十。

总部设在美国得克萨斯州的“全球语言监督机构” 发布报告称，自1994年以来加入英语的新词汇中，“中文借用词”的数量独占鳌头，以5%－20%的比例超过任何其他语言来源。该机构长期扫描网络以发现突然冒出的英语新词汇，并且跟踪它们的主要用途与使用频率。据说平均每天将14.7个“新词”收进英语家族，折算一下，平均每98分钟就有一个英语新词问世，平均每天有一个中式英语杀入“标准英语”家族。

前不久“dia”(嗲)被收入《牛津英语词典》在线版，原本来源于英语dear，同一词根延伸出diaism (名词，嗲主义或崇尚嗲的理念)，diaist(名词，嗲人)，diaistic(形容词，嗲的)，diaisticable(形容词，令人觉得嗲的)，diaisticate(动词，发嗲)。cyber-diaist(网络红人)，superdiaistic(超级嗲的)。

而moon gate(月洞门)，barefoot doctor(赤脚医生)，Son of heaven(天子)这样的表达更始考验人的想象力，虽然这些词都被收入牛津或韦氏词典。

如果你从没上网vegeteal(偷菜)，坚持看foulsball(中国足球)，出差必坐don'train(动车)，就太niubility(牛逼)了，我只能smilence(笑而不语)„„antizen(蚁民)的智慧不可小觑，自创英语热词像病毒一样风靡网络。

比起怎么用一个中文热词，怎么翻译输出更让人纠结。

就像年度热词“给力”，不管塞在句子哪个部分，即使再“萌”，联系上下文也会“懂的”，但要为它寻找一个处处通用的翻译，皓首穷经也未必如愿，不如索性心一横，套用音译生造一个“gelivable”。随后，“ungelivable”(不给力)、法语guélir也在网上遍地开花。

“gelivable”的构词法并非独创，当年神六上天时，热极一时的“taikonaut”(特指中国宇航员)也是音译加意译——“taiko”源自“太空”，后缀“-naut”指“驾驶员、操作员”。按照约定俗成的国际惯例，拥有载人技术的国家都能很长脸地享受一个量身定做的

专有名词，外媒在报道神六时杜撰了“taikonaut”，目前除“taikonaut”之外，只有特供美国的“astronaut”和特供俄罗斯的“cosmonaut”。

在即将挥别过去十年之际，试问中国最流行的网络语录是哪一句?相信很多人都会提到“人生就是一个杯子，而它是“杯具”还是“洗具”，全由你自己选择。”

Drinking cup (beiju) is a homophone for “tragedy” in Chinese, while toothbrush cup (xiju) is homophone for “comedy”. There's a whole range of beiju vs xiju debates running across the post-80s and post-90s' online talk. In the background, however, lurks something that's far less funny.
