Recent changes in Chinese family life
With the economics developing rapidly and the impact of the various cultures, a great many earth-shaking changes have taken place in Chinese family life during these two generations.
In my parents’ childhood, it was pretty common that four generations lived under the same roof. The adult children usually undertook the responsibility of taking care of their seniors. The whole family dined together and shared the interesting incidents they encountered in the daily life, which prevents the family members, especially the old people from loneliness. They could feel the warm emotional support from one another. And the three meals a day prepared by the children with great care were better than any other presents for their parents. At that time, people put the family in the first place.
On the contrary, nowadays more and more nuclear families and dink ones are mushrooming. The majority of the adult children live thousands of miles away from their parents, even in the different cities. Everything becomes digital, they express their love and care to their parents by means of e-mails, telephones, chatting-on-line and electronic cards. People pay great attention to their career, fame and wealth, but where is the position of family in their hearts?
To my mind, the changes result from the rapid development of the economics and the impact of the various cultures. At any rate, we should
make great effort to find time for our family, for our parents. After all, they need us and are unique to us.
