My Awesome Summer Vacation

Yay, summer vacation was finally here! No more waking up super early or having to sit through boring classes all day. For two whole months, I could just relax, have fun, and do whatever I wanted. It was going to be the best summer ever!

The first week, I basically did nothing but laze around the house playing video games and watching TV shows. My parents kept nagging me to \"go outside and get some fresh air\was way too busy leveling up my character and binging the latest anime. I only left my room to grab snacks from the kitchen. My Summer Vacation Adventures

School had just ended and I was so excited for summer vacation! No more classes, homework or waking up early. Just

months of freedom and fun ahead. My parents had made big plans for us to go on an awesome trip to explore some cool places. I couldn't wait!

Our first stop was Beijing. I had been there before when I was little but couldn't remember much. As soon as we arrived, I was in awe at how massive and crowded the city was. Everywhere I looked there were highrises, neon lights and people rushing around. The traffic was crazy with cars honking and bicycles zipping through any little gap they could find. It was all a bit overwhelming at first after coming from my smaller hometown. We went to see all the famous sites like the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and the Temple of Heaven. The Forbidden City was my favorite. I loved walking through the various palaces, gardens and corridors. It was like stepping back in time to imperial China. I could easily imagine the emperors and their families living there in luxury. My dad hired a guide to teach us all about the history which made it even more fascinating.

The next highlight was finally getting to see the Great Wall of China in person! In our textbooks, it had always looked so tiny and unimpressive. But when I was actually standing on it, I couldn't believe how enormous and magnificent it was. The Wall stretched as far as my eyes could see across the mountainous

landscape. Climbing up and down the steep steps was an amazing workout too. At the highest point, I felt like I was on top of the world being able to take in the sweeping views. No wonder it's considered one of the great wonders of the world! After a few days in Beijing, we took a high-speed train to Xi'an. I had never been on a bullet train before and it was so cool how fast we could get across the country. The tops speeds were over 300 km/hr! As we raced past the rural countryside, I pressed my face against the window to try and catch glimpses of the farms, villages and landscapes flashing by in a blur.

In Xi'an, the number one thing I wanted to see was the Terracotta Warriors. They were way more mind-blowing than I had imagined! The warriors were Life-sized and there were thousands of them in the underground pits. Each one had a unique facial expression and details like hair and armor. It was incredible to think they had been buried for over 2000 years guarding the tomb of the emperor. Our guide explained how they were accidentally discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well. I felt so lucky to get to witness this form of ancient art that had remained frozen in time for so long.

My favorite part about Xi'an though was the Muslim Quarter. It was like being transported to the Middle East with its winding

alleyways, mosques, and aromatic smells of spices and naan bread wafting through the air. We had the most delicious lamb kebabs, naan, and other halal foods there. I had never tried that type of cuisine before and it instantly became one of my new favorites. The market stalls were fun too with locals selling colorful lanterns, souvenirs, street snacks and more. Just wandering around people-watching was an experience in itself. Our last stop was Shanghai, which blew my little hometown out of the water! The city felt like a western metropolis mixed with ancient Chinese cultures. The architecture was a crazy combination of ultra-modern skyscrapers beside traditional neighborhoods. The neon lights at night along the Bund waterfront were blindingly bright and beautiful.

One of the coolest things we did was going up to the 88th floor observation deck of the Shanghai World Financial Center tower. The views from the top over the whole city were just breathtaking. I had never seen so many buildings clustered together as far as I could see. It made me appreciate how rapidly China has developed over the past few decades into an economic powerhouse.
