In the case where a storage device 13B having a PCM audio input terminal Din isconnected, MPEG audio data is decoded and outputted from Dout. In the case where astorage device 13C having a bidirectional digital interface terminal Dif such as an IEEE1394digital interface terminal is connected, ATRAC data is outputted from Dif. Thus, in acontents distribution system, the type of received data can be selected in accordancewith the type of a storage device connected to an IRD.
