摘要：Methods and apparatus directed to using modulation to substantially improvedetection limits in optical imaging, and to substantially improve the performance ofvarious optical imaging systems. Such modulation is achieved using a modulated lightsource (40), a modulation frequency reference (42), a detector (10), and a demodulator(46). The modulated light source may comprise a light source emitting an inherentlymodulated output; or, this modulated light source may comprise a separate opticalmodulator and a continuous wave, modulated, or pulsed light source configured toimpose a modulation in the output of light source. Methods for imaging are alsodisclosed.
